POSITION SUMMARY:

A key member of the Marketing and Communications Department, the Communications Associate will find and develop story ideas, create content for BMC social and digital channels, support the development of award applications, and work collaboratively across teams to amplify BMC news and thought leadership. Comfort with media, strong writing skills, and flexibility are required, as well as ability to work under tight deadlines. Duties will also include project management for Internal Communications initiatives, social media community management, and helping support logistics on social media's role in events. This position reports to the Senior Director Strategic Communications, with day-to-day oversight of project work coming from the Social Media Specialist and Communications Manager.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:


  • Develop long-form and short form content to support stories about BMC's innovation, mission, and service lines, delivered through social and digital channels.

  • Identify and support the development of applications for system-awards, in partnership with the Manager, Communications.

  • Assist with logistics for film shoots and other social media supported events

  • Serve as a community manager for BMC's social channels.

  • Generate reports on social media campaigns and metrics and present on a regular basis to key stakeholders.

  • Projects and other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree required, with strong preference for degree in journalism, public relations or communications.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • None

EXPERIENCE:

  • 1-2 years' experience in communications, including public relations, media relations, journalism or a directly related field required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs):


  • Excellent written and oral communications skills

  • Knowledge of and experience with earned media, digital media, and social media business practices

  • Ability to understand, translate and communicate complex health care information in layman's terms

  • Ability to think creatively to develop compelling story/content ideas

  • Ability to work independently and across communications teams

  • Proficient at multi-tasking

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Strong judgment

  • Maturity and presence to develop excellent working relationships with a broad range of internal colleagues, including clinicians, researchers, administrators and staff, as well as external stakeholders and members of the media

  • Must be comfortable honoring strict patient privacy requirements and have the ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate professionalism and courtesy when working with BMC's patients

  • Flexibility
