Summary

Leads research, design, and development activities to improve NYPA's energy services. Designs, constructs, and tests equipment. Ensures that standards of quality, cost, safety, reliability, timeliness, and performance are met throughout all engineering activities.

Provide technical expertise to power-producing machines, such as generators and turbines, as well as rotating machines, such as refrigeration and building systems and fire protection. Ensures that standards of quality, cost, safety, reliability, timeliness and performance are met throughout all engineering activities.

Responsibilities
  • Provide responsible engineer function in support of a limited range of design modification projects, equipment applications and failure research, engineering studies, and operations and maintenance activities.
  • Perform site visits to observe construction and administer basic on-site technical support.
  • Perform occasional emergency response, including outside of normal business hours.
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines and departments for the successful development and execution of projects.
  • Perform research on applicable codes, standards and procedures and apply to work tasks appropriately.
  • Perform evaluations to ensure engineering requirements and Authority specifications are satisfied.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Basic competency in the design, operation and maintenance of mechanical systems specific to the electric utility industry (site-based)
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Basic verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects with guidance.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Ability to perform basic engineering calculations, and adapt standard specifications, scopes of work, reports, and design packages to specific projects.
  • Basic competency in the design, operation and maintenance of mechanical systems for commercial and industrial facilities and their various systems and components (Customer-based).
Education, Experience and Certifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of two (2) years related work experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Approximately 10% travel primarily within NY State.
  • Ability to access all areas of the plant and conduct physical evaluations of grounds and equipment including ability to work at high elevations.

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is: $85,750 - $117,900. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates' relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
