Overview

Element has a current opening for a Virology Supervisor to join our growing team in Eagan, MN. The Virology Laboratory Supervisor (a) oversees the efficiency and day-to-day activities of the Virology Laboratory to assure timely and accurate test results are delivered, (b) schedules, performs and evaluates virology efficacy testing; (c) performs, evaluates and interprets a wide range of viral assays; (d) assists in data and report generation while maintaining a high level of scientific integrity; (e) assists with and designs research and development (R&D) projects when implementing new methods or adapting current methods and (f) trains new virologists. All operational leadership positions must be proficient in a number of core business skills including but not limited to compliance to established safety rules, code of conduct, and company policies and procedures.



Responsibilities

    Is a key participant in the company safety program and provides awareness around safety first.
  • Oversees daily virology laboratory operations; manages/evaluates the performance of the lab technicians to ensure efficiency and proficiency of each technician.
  • Coordinates and facilitates training of virology laboratory tasks for all new and existing virology lab technicians.
  • Coordinates virology studies by scheduling projects and lab duties to facilitate smooth and timely execution of studies.
  • Monitors employee schedule levels to provide feedback on capacity needs and available capacity.
  • Continually assesses, adjusts and improves the virology laboratory operational processes to maximize productivity and efficiency.
  • Performs, evaluates and interprets a wide range of virology assays including basic analytical titrations in accordance with SOP and protocols under the full guidance and direction of the Study Director when appropriate.
  • Responsible for the development of, performing, evaluating and interpreting Research and Development (R&D) projects with the guidance of the Study Director and/or Laboratory Operations Manager.
  • Responsible for implementing new methodologies with the guidance of the Study Director and/or Laboratory Operations Manager. Aids in report (data) generation as needed.
  • Responsible for generating and maintaining strict documentation of raw data to ensure a high level of scientific integrity in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for the documentation and maintenance of applicable training records.
  • Performs general and supplemental laboratory duties when requested by the lab manager.
  • Responsible for the review of paperwork generated by the virology & cell culture laboratories as necessary.
  • Assists with developing and refining new and existing Standard Operating Procedures and forms.
  • Provides information to supervisors and co-workers using a variety of communication styles and technology.
  • Responsible for communicating laboratory issues and trends to the lab manager and to peers when these issues are discovered.
  • Responsible for assisting with the completion of all daily laboratory tasks scheduled directly or indirectly to the employee.
  • Performs testing and lab support in other laboratories as needed (microbiology, chemistry, media, etc.).


Skills / Qualifications

  • Thorough understanding of scientific studies in order to problem-solve, develop new test methods, and schedule testing.
  • Ability to adapt standard laboratory techniques and tests to meet the demands of specific problems and client needs.
  • Work as an effective and proactive team-player; understands the importance of supporting the organization, customers and other Element employees.
  • Ability to maintain records according to appropriate regulations.
  • Able to use critical thinking, logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
