GENERAL SUMMARY: Performs screening mammography exams in a mobile mammography environment. Evaluates exam protocols and equipment. Maintains all quality testing and ensures Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) requirements for mobile mammography. Uses x-ray technology and techniques to assist in the screening and diagnosis of patient medical problems for patients throughout the age continuum PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values. 2. *Performs screening mammography in a mobile environment. 3. *Monitors clinical performance with the lead interpreting physician and reports deficiencies to the radiology manager. 4. *Performs and evaluates images for technical quality. 5. *Competently operates all mammography equipment and support systems to include EPIC, PACS, and the mobile mammography schedule. 6. *Adheres to all state and federal regulatory requirements and accreditation (American College of Radiology) requirements; provides proper documentation for regulatory and accreditation requirements. 7. *Properly cares for and images patients. 8. *Coordinates exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care; communicates with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families, and other staff to ensure quality patient care. 9. *Handles scheduling of the mobile mammography unit, coordinates and designs work schedules at contracted mobile mammography locations to ensure appropriate coverage, and works with appropriate departments regarding truck parking and maintenance. 10. *Drives the mobile mammography truck. 11. *Coordinates and oversees the medical physicist requirements for mobile mammography equipment, mobile quality assurance program and works with the mammography coordinator to ensure proper documentation of the radiologist reading stations. 12. Participates in future planning and quality improvement of the mammography department. 13. *Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment as necessary; notifies supervisor of equipment problems and calls appropriate service vendors as needed. 14. *Keeps area properly supplied. 15. *Works with managers to complete process improvement activities to include performing quality monitoring and data gathering, designing and managing workflow processes, researching regulations, and developing staff orientation and training tools for mobile mammography. 16. *Works with the lead interpreting physician and radiology manger to evaluate images for the American College of Radiology (ACR) submission for accreditation and technical quality. 17. *Implements and monitors radiation safety measures to ensure safety of patients and staff. 18. Participates in providing mobile services as required, operating hospital vehicles and complying with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. 19. Assists with departmental orientation. 20. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise. 21. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned. 22. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned. (Essential Job functions are marked with an asterisk "*". Attach Addendum for positions with slightly different roles or work-specific differences as needed. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patient's growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification and mandatory education and competencies. 2. Knowledge of mammographic positioning, use of technical factors, and radiation safety practices. 3. Knowledge of mammography non-invasive and invasive procedures. 4. Knowledge of Joint Commission, ACR, federal and state regulatory requirements. 5. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions. 6. Skill in optimally demonstrating patient anatomy through proper positioning and selection of technical factors. 7. Skill in operating mammography equipment, PACS and other related systems. 8. Ability to react appropriately and perform work effectively under stressful and emergent situations. 9. Ability to care for diverse patients throughout the age continuum. 10. Ability to exercise courtesy and professionalism in the work environment. 11. Ability to practice proper body mechanics to ensure personal and patient safety. 12. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 13. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes. 14. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduate of a school of radiologic technology with current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required. Must meet MQSA requirements for mammography technologist. If not already obtained, ARRT certification in mammography required within six (6) months of eligibility. Valid state medical radiographer license required. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in mammography required. OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS: Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network. Valid driver's license required. Valid Nebraska class B driver's license with an Air Brake Endorsement required within three (3) months of hire. Verification and maintenance of responsible driving record per facility standards required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.) (DOT) - Characterized as medium work requiring exertion or 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. |
