Pre-Op Coder

Assigns CPT and ICD-10 codes for ambulatory surgical patients. Codes from provider orders for Pre- Authorization prior to the procedure. Audits orders and consents for proper documentation, signatures, dates etc. Communicates with providers, nursing staff, scheduling, and hospital authorization team. Must have excellent customer service skills, communicate effectively, multi-task and work as a team player in a fast paced environment.

• Encompassing all aspects of medical coding for hospital services including office, outpatient hospital and inpatient services
• Provides examples and supporting documentation to improve accuracy of chart coding by advising them on proper code selection, required documentation and procedures, identifies performance issues and brings issues to the attention of the appropriate supervisor.
• Maintains positive rapports with providers, clinic staff, auth team, and department managers. Ability to ask questions and provide training.
• Understands CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS codes and guidelines. Have basic Anatomy and Pathophysiology understanding. Basic Medical Terminology.

Regulatory Requirements:

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Medical Coder (CMC) required.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Prefer one year coding experience.
• Previous medical coding experience is preferred.
• Previous medical field experience required.
