What you'll do

As the Senior Manufacturing Engineer for Utilimaster (A Shyft Brand) based at our facility in Bristol, IN, you will be given the unique opportunity to help create a new legacy at our newly built, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Landisville, PA, (20 minutes NW from downtown Lancaster).

Your primary focus as Senior Manufacturing Engineer will be to troubleshoot production inefficiencies, optimize manufacturing processes, and plan and design manufacturing plant floor layouts to properly locate and coordinate equipment and material for efficient production.

In addition, you will be accountable for preparing time studies, project planning, project management, and budget management, and for supporting Production through developing, and maintaining systems needed to drive continuous improvement in areas of cost, quality, safety, lead time, and use of working capital.

You will also:

  • Analyze product line and sub-assembly value streams to understand Value-Add (VA) and Non-Value Add (NVA) components
  • Reduce (NVA) process times to optimize Process Cycle Efficiency (PCE)
  • Evaluate tools and equipment process options that will reduce operational costs
  • Partner with production floor employees to balance work cell content
  • Develop and maintain Work Instructions, Standard Work, and Shop Best Practice manuals
  • Collaborate with Supervisors and Assemblers to identify work cell barriers, understand causes, and implement solutions to reduce the potential for recurrence
  • Work cross-functionally to identify functional process gaps and lead teams to analyze issues,
  • Drive and implement consensus-based solutions and future-state processes
  • Utilize your knowledge of assembly, electrical, and welding processes to resolve manufacturing issues
  • Implement lean manufacturing methods such as visual controls and continuous improvement
  • Deliver manufacturing technical support to production operations, including tooling, and fixturing
  • Process troubleshooting steps by utilizing existing systems and procedures
  • Research new technologies, methods, and processes to improve existing operations
  • Identify and correct safety and ergonomic issues
  • Develop and organize lean events in partnership with the Continuous Improvement (CI) team
  • Support the NPI process and evaluate new projects for tooling and equipment needs
  • Aid in workstation load balancing for all manufacturing areas
  • Verify, review, and implement torque specifications as well as high-risk part specifications
  • Investigate problems, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventative actions
  • Coach and train employees, production, quality, and materials team members in Lean and Six Sigma methodology and application

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or industrial engineering or equivalent combination of education and manufacturing engineering experience
  • Five or more (5+) years of relevant manufacturing engineering expertise
  • A Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cross-organizational projects, and train and coach other project leaders in Lean Six Sigma methodology
  • Familiarity with problem-solving methodology event investigation and fact gathering, Root-Cause (RCA), Corrective Action-Preventive Action (CAPA), and DMAIC
  • Knowledge of LeanTakt, Line Balancing, Value Stream Mapping, Waste Elimination, 5S, Kanban, Standard Work, Process Cycle Efficiency, Pull Systems, Poke-Yoke, and Little's Law
  • Versed in Six Sigma, including Design of Experiments (DOE), Regression, ANOVA, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Gage R&R, Design and Process FMEA, Control Plans, Hypothesis Testing, Cause and Effect Diagram and Cause and Effect Matrix, Critical to Quality Inputs
  • Versed in working in a low-volume/high-variation manufacturing operation
  • Proficient in data analysis software e.g., Minitab, EngineRoom, JMP, Qlik, SigmaXL, process mapping and Modeling software e.g., MS Visio, Process Playground, BluePrism
  • Experience utilizing CI Strategy and Tracking software e.g., KPI Fire, PowerSteering
  • Expertise with ERP or MRP Systems e.g., Aurora, Plex, Oracle
  • Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint)
  • Ability to design with computer-aided design systems (SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred)
