Senior Advanced Systems Engineer

As a Senior Advanced Systems Engineer - Tracking Systems Engineer for the SDA GMI program, you will be an integral member of a dynamic, cross-functional team tasked with developing and deploying cutting-edge ground operational systems for satellite communications. Your expertise will directly contribute to the success of the mission, ensuring the systems we develop are state-of-the-art and effective in meeting operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop, deploy, and optimize advanced tracking systems within the SDA GMI program.
- Utilize your expertise in satellite communications, tracking, and ground operations to ensure seamless integration between ground systems and satellite payloads.
- Lead the design, analysis, and modeling of tracking systems, including the use of tools such as STK, Python, CAMEO, and MATLAB.
- Contribute to the modeling and simulation efforts to validate system performance and ensure compliance with mission requirements.
- Provide technical leadership and support throughout the systems development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, system design, integration, and testing.
- Interface with stakeholders to gather requirements, define solutions, and ensure technical alignment with customer needs.
- Champion process improvements, bring creative solutions to complex technical challenges, and mentor junior engineers.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Satellite Communications Knowledge: Understanding of satellite communications principles, including ground-to-satellite communication and operational concepts.
- Ground Operations Experience: Hands-on experience in ground systems and operations in the context of satellite systems.
- Technical Expertise:
- Proficiency in STK/Python, CAMEO, or MATLAB for systems modeling and analysis.
- Experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) with a focus on tracking systems.
- Familiarity with SMART OA SE, IRPL, and modeling tracking payloads in aerospace contexts.
- Strong background in software, cloud technologies, and system modeling as it applies to space systems.

Workplace Environment: This role is primarily on-site at our Scottsdale facility, with hybrid or flexible work options available depending on project needs.
Required Skills / Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Systems Engineering or Science or Engineering or Mathematics.
- Minimum of 8 years experience in systems engineering.
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
- Master's Degree.
- Agile experience.
- Satellite communications knowledge.
- Ground to Satellite communication knowledge.
- Ground operations experience.
- STK/Python, CAMEO, or MATLAB analyst focus.
- SE with MBSE experience and tracking knowledge.
- SE with core skills space, tracking, MATLAB or python skills, and some software ideal for backfill.
- SMART OA SE - knowledge of IRPL, modeling tracking payload, aerospace experience.
- Strong SW, cloud, modeling, and sim background with space knowledge.
- Creative thinker with demonstrated success leading the systems development life cycle.
- Collaborative team player eager to provide technical leadership and position others for success.
- Thorough knowledge of technology trends and willingness to champion new ideas and process improvements.
- Good presentation and communications skills with experience in negotiation and the ability to meet challenging customer requirements with win-win solutions.
