IDC Data Engineer

Under the direct supervision of the Integrative Cancer Imaging Data Commons (IDC) principal investigators, the candidate will undertake the following:
*Become an expert in using and being able to educate users about the user-facing capabilities of IDC. You will master the use of the portal, the image viewers, Python tutorials, open-source libraries supporting the use of IDC, documentation, etc.
*Gain knowledge of DICOM representation of IDC data and help navigate users on understanding of IDC data organization, and best practices and tools for using the data
*Produce IDC training materials, such as interactive tutorials, documentation pages, demonstrations, etc.
*Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of the open source infrastructure (python libraries, 3D Slicer IDC extension)
*Take the lead on outreach, writing blog articles, recording videos educating about the platform and demonstrating its capabilities, posting updates about IDC in the user forum, and coming up with new ideas about outreach opportunities via various online and in-person venues.
*Contribute to social media content creation (visuals and message-writing)
*Develop content for IDC release announcements
*Support development, collection, and evaluation of key performance indicators for guiding refinement of development and communication
*Contribute to the development of the communication strategy
*Contribute to the overall platform development, prioritization of tasks, and allocation of resources.

The ideal candidate will:
  • Play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing the user support strategy of the IDC team
  • Contribute to the improvement of the user-facing open source tools based on the assessment of the user needs
  • Serve as a liaison between the IDC users and IDC core developers, educating about the capabilities of the platform, learning about user needs, helping remedy problems and prioritize improvements
  • Be the storyteller who shines a spotlight on the groundbreaking technology and research developments happening in IDC
EducationBachelor's Degree Computer Science required.Experience
  • Relevant and suitable education in science-related fields
  • Experience working with medical imaging data
  • Working knowledge of Python or demonstrated ability and willingness to learn new technical skills
  • Experience using DICOM, or demonstrated commitment and ability to learn this complex standard
  • Strong interest in medical imaging
  • Experience with digital communications channels and social media
  • Demonstrated writing skills
  • Evidence of participation in community projects, team development, and collaborative open-source software development is desired.
