The Atlanta Journal Constitution, a Cox Enterprises company, is hiring a Manager, Accounting. This position, located in Atlanta, Georgia, will be responsible for managing all aspects and activities of the general ledger and manage the month-end close process managing a team of two. This position will be expected to provide superior customer service across the business units, Finance, Corporate Accounting, and others as needed. In this role, the individual will ensure team members have appropriate training, support and resources to perform their jobs. Through reviews, analytics and metrics, this position will identify weaknesses in controls, opportunities, risks and process inefficiencies and act upon those findings. This role also supports the Dayton Daily News business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Executes on key events on full-cycle accounting calendar (monthly, quarterly and fiscal year ends) and be responsible for ensuring processes run smoothly including journal entry processing and review, account reconciliations and review, and accruals review
  • Oversee the compilation, analysis and reporting of accounting data and ensure they are accurately completed
  • Responsible for performing accounting analysis and maintaining a complete and accurate general ledger in accordance with GAAP.
  • Review and analyze monthly results for accurate providing financial reporting deliverables and sharing opportunities for improvement when identified
  • Monthly preparation, review and sign off of balance sheet reconciliation.
  • Adhere to rigorous controls over all processes around the Oracle ERP system.
  • Prepare ad hoc analysis, reports, and presentation to leadership on an ongoing basis including trend analysis, variance analysis and scenario modeling
  • Identify opportunities to improve systems and processes, working with operations, corporate accounting, IT and others to consistently improve accuracy and efficiency of processing transactions while improving internal controls.
  • Evaluate and implement financial internal controls to ensure compliance with best practices.
  • Direct, manage and prepare monthly and yearly financial reporting packages for internal and external sources, supporting Corporate/CEI headquarters, Tax, and Risk Management
  • Maintain a positive, strong working relationship with all internal customers to ensure our accounting and financial reporting needs are met.
  • Manage special projects as assigned. Lead subject matter expert (SME) on IT projects impacting these applications.
  • Develop and monitor department policies and procedures and implement improvements
  • Primary point of contact for external auditors during annual audit.
  • Oversee the activities of two direct reports. Leads the team ensuring optimal individual and team performance. Serves as a mentor/coach to direct reports.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance and/or Accounting with 6+ years accounting experience. A candidate may also have a Master's Degree with 4+ years of experience. A non-degreed candidate will have 10+ years of experience.
  • 1+ years of accounting management or leadership experience
  • Maturity and organizational savvy to work with corporate management.
  • Month end close knowledge and general accounting principles.
  • Excellent oral and written communication is mandatory.
  • GAAP subject matter expert on most complex/critical areas
  • Highly detail oriented and organized in work.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, and shift priorities quickly as required.
  • Proven ability to work with minimal direction, show initiative, and use independent judgment, including determination and development of effective approaches to projects with general guidance
  • Ability to understand business strategy and translate into effective tactical plans.
  • Strong computer skills and proficient use of Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle Financials and Essbase
  • Proven ability to work with all levels in the organization.


USD 90,100.00 - 150,100.00 per year

Compensation:

Compensation includes a base salary of $90,100.00 - $150,100.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.
