Data Center Chief Engineer Electrical

What this job involves:

This position is responsible for operating, inspecting, and maintaining various electrical systems and equipment in Data Center Critical Environments and Commercial Real Estate portfolios. The role focuses on ensuring efficient operations, minimizing downtime, and maintaining energy-efficient and safe conditions. The engineer will demonstrate expertise in electrical systems while being multi-skilled in other areas to successfully complete daily work assignments and manage overall facility operations.

Your day-to-day tasks will include:

Maintenance and Repairs:

Implement critical environment protocols and MOP processes. Maintain and repair main electrical services, distribution services, panels, and powerline conditioners. Inspect and maintain plant substations, transformers, and HV switches. Install and troubleshoot electrical utilities for production and support equipment. Repair, replace, and maintain facility lighting systems. Perform preventative maintenance on emergency electrical power systems and HVAC-related electrical components. Assist with electrical needs in manufacturing and data center areas. Maintain, operate, and repair HVAC systems, CRAC units, plumbing systems, and other related equipment.

Safety:

Complete Hazard Assessments as necessary. Comply with all safety procedures, maintaining good housekeeping and safety of work areas. Recognize danger and safety hazards and propose methods to eliminate them. Maintain compliance with NEC, IEEE standards, and all applicable State, County, or City Ordinances, Codes, or Laws. Complete all required safety training as scheduled.

Administrative:

Submit P-card Receipts Daily. Update work order status in real-time and complete assigned work orders. Utilize CMMS systems such as Corrigo for all work performed. Perform Vehicle Safety Inspection. Escalate problems or issues to Customer and Manager in a timely manner. Attend work and safety meetings as required. Interpret drawings and specifications for electrical installations and repairs.

Physical work requirements and work conditions:
Lifting up to 80 lbs.
Working from heights, including climbing ladders up to 30 feet.
Frequently climbing, bending, lifting, kneeling, stooping, and working/extending overhead.
Working in adverse conditions (e.g., extreme cold, extreme heat).
Standing, kneeling, crawling, bending, and using hands, fingers, and arms for installation and maintenance tasks.
Must be available for on-call work.

Desired experience and technical skills:

Required:
Journeyman Electrician's License. 4+ years of technical experience in building engineering with a strong background in electrical systems, HVAC, plumbing, and production equipment repair and maintenance. Experience working in Data Centers/Raised Floor Environment and/or manufacturing environments. Universal EPA 608 Certification. CRAC (Liebert) maintenance and repair experience.

Preferred:

Expertise in electrical systems and high voltage operations. Experience with high voltage substations and equipment. Familiarity with building automation systems and fire/life safety systems. Willingness to train in safe electrical work practices and high voltage operations. Experience in central utility plant operations and material handling equipment.
This combined role requires a highly skilled professional with a strong background in electrical systems and broad knowledge of facility operations, particularly in data center and commercial real estate environments.
