Job Summary

Named after a prestigious woman in American medicine, the Augusta Webster, MD, Office of Medical Education (A.W.O.M.E.) is the heart of the medical school and a hub for many student activities. AWOME is charged with supporting students and faculty of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, including the academic, personal, and professional development of Feinberg medical students.

This position directly supports the core mission to deliver a premier medical education experience and educate the physicians of tomorrow.

The Curriculum Coordinator provides direction in reviewing & recommending policy & procedure designed to enhance operational excellence of a program/project in order to ensure success. Ensures the effective, compliant, & efficient daily management of all functions in support of the educational mission.

The program/project is summarized below. (Definitions: Program: plan or system of taking action toward a goal. Project: planned actions with specified beginning & end.)

This position is located in the Augusta Webster, MD, Office of Medical Education (AWOME) within the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine (FSM; Chicago campus) and directly supports the core mission to deliver a premier medical education experience and educate the physicians of tomorrow.

The creative and team-centered individual in this role collaborates with staff, physician educators, scientists, and students in the comprehensive development, organization, implementation, maintenance and assessment of the Undergraduate Medical Education Curriculum of the Feinberg School of Medicine.

Following educational best practices, the Curriculum Coordinator proactively supports the day-to-day operations of curriculum and continuous quality improvement activities to meet the needs of students as they navigate the curriculum. Participates in cultivating a culture of support as students

develop their skills, intellectual discipline, compassion and professionalism through on-campus and community learning and experiences.

The person in this position reports to the Senior Curriculum Coordinator and works closely with the Curriculum Coordinator team, Associate Dean for Curriculum, other education leadership, and AWOME staff and faculty.

Specific Responsibilities:

Administration

  • Oversees & ensures that day-to-day operations are appropriately managed, efficient and effective.
  • Develops, maintains & reports on quantitative and qualitative performance measures.
  • Acts as liaison to IT and Educational Technology to ensure technology systems are properly installed & maintained & meet the informational needs of users.
  • Issues work order requests for maintenance, repairs & upgrades.

Evaluation

  • Manages development and maintenance of evaluation processes including associated metrics and key performance indicators.
  • Reviews & analyzes outcome measurements and recommends changes & enhancements to improve program/project.
  • Collaborates with internal/external partners to implement changes designed to improve/increase program/project goals/objectives.

Events

  • Manages programming of educational and student events, workshops, meetings, etc. including speakers, agendas, etc.
  • Manages planning and arrangement of meetings, workshops, events, etc. designed to exchange information, and to build internal relationships within NU.
  • Manages event details including communication, venues, presenters, materials, refreshments and technology and ensures they are arranged and completed in an appropriate and timely manner.

Faculty Support

  • Manages recruitment of faculty.
  • Manages all aspects of faculty administrative tasks related to teaching in the curriculum and ensures optimal faculty support.

Program Development

  • Coordinates with program/project sponsors on the delivery of all onsite instruction and provision of logistical support.
  • Recruits faculty/instructors to teach programs
  • Supervises creation of components, including curriculum development, lectures, conferences, seminars, support groups, etc.
  • Manages relationships and coordinates logistical support
  • Continually assesses and innovates program/project to achieve educational goals.

Student Support

  • Manages recruitment, application evaluation, interview, selection and notification of students or participants for student review panels.
  • Implements a department strategy for structure, process, & staff support of students.
  • Delivers the daily curriculum. Acts in a proactive manner to identify potential problems and develop solutions and contingency plans for a variety of scenarios.
  • Communicates verbally and in writing general curriculum information.
  • Coordinates the compilation, production and distribution of student and instructor curricular materials.
  • Maintains the on-line course management site for the Feinberg Online Curriculum User System (FOCUS) and Electronic Medical Education Resource Gateway (Emerg). Includes proofreading and editing of all curricular and ad hoc materials.
  • Coordinates, communicates and manages student and faculty group assignments; posts assignments/schedules on Canvas/FOCUS.
  • Coordinates and staffs meetings; follows up on action items.
  • Assists in the development of the yearly academic schedules and integration with the rest of the curriculum.
  • Provides guidance and advisement to faculty, students and staff regarding the curricula to improve the teaching/learning experience.
  • Fosters and maintains open and ongoing communication; interpret School and course policies.
  • Provides leadership and guidance for FSM and medical students. Maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding student information at all times. Notifies appropriate individual(s) regarding student absences, performance issues or concerns. Involves the education counseling team when a student presents in crisis or demonstrates signs of emotional duress.

Miscellaneous

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Target hiring range for this position will be between $56,782 - 79,850 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
