This posting is open to both lateral transfers and individuals who are new to law enforcement and interested in starting a career as a police officer. If hired, the City of Dublin will sponsor un-certified new hires to attend a Basic Peace Officer Training Academy of the City's choosing. Lateral transfers will need to provide proof of OPOTA certification. All candidates (lateral and entry level) are required to complete the written examination. You can schedule to take the exam in person at one of NTN's testing locations or you can schedule to take the exam online at your convenience. Your NTN exam score will be valid for one year. The instructions to complete the NTN written exam: 1. Applicants may register for the exam at www.nationaltestingnetwork.com You may call National Testing Network (NTN) at 1-866-563-3882 with any questions regarding scheduling your exam. 2. Be sure to select the City of Dublin as an agency to send your scores. 3. After you have completed the exam, the City of Dublin will receive your scores and passing candidates will be notified via email to self schedule their in-person interview. Please note the dates below for the rest of the mandatory steps in the recruitment process. Under the direct supervision of a Lieutenant, a Police Officer patrols a designated area ensuring compliance with all applicable State Laws and City Ordinances; answers calls when a crime is suspected or an emergency exists; takes such actions as are necessary to prevent crime, to apprehend a criminal, to maintain safety, to assist citizens in a wide range of emergency and non-emergency situations; and performs other related duties, tasks, and assignments as required and directed by a Sergeant, Lieutenant, Deputy Chief, or the Chief of Police. Drives a police vehicle, patrolling designated area; Directs and regulates traffic, assists stranded motorists, assists injured persons, notifies families of injury; Investigates accidents, determining conditions, causes and other pertinent facts regarding accident; Conducts investigations of crimes, preserves crime scene, gathers and preserves evidence; Looks for and investigates conditions or situations which may indicate a crime is about to be, or has been committed; Takes statements from witnesses and suspects; Secures warrants; makes arrests, transports prisoners; Issues citations for violations of traffic laws; testifies in court; Maintains records and prepares reports of incidents and activities; Attends neighborhood meetings to address and evaluate the concerns of the citizens; and, Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent certificate, with a strong preference for a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science, Criminology, Government, Political Science, Public Administration or other relevant field. Uncertified applicants: Successful entrance into and completion of a State certified Basic Peace Officer training program. The City of Dublin will pay academy tuition fees. New hires will also receive full pay and benefits while at the academy. Lateral transfers will need to provide proof of OPOTA certification. Minimum of 21 years of age at time of appointment (must be 21 by August 14, 2025) Must not be older than 45 years of age at time of application if an applicant is seeking an original appointment as a police officer with the City of Dublin; exceptions to this rule apply if the applicant has received an original appointment as a sworn peace officer with any other appointing authority. Must be under the age of 45 on August 14, 2025. Possession of a valid Ohio Driver's License at time of appointment. Must be a United States Citizen or United States Permanent Resident. Physical Requirements: Must be physically capable of successfully performing the essential job functions of the Police Officer classification and be free of medical conditions that would preclude one from successfully performing said functions or would pose a direct threat to the health or safety of oneself or others. Visual acuity must be correctable to 20/20 and vision must be free of color deficiencies that would preclude one from performing the essential job functions or would pose a direct threat to the health or safety of oneself or others. Must be able to meet physical fitness entrance standards prescribed by the Academy of the City's choosing. Other Requirements: Successful completion of all phases of the Selection Process prior to appointment. (Process includes application phase, structured panel interview, physical fitness assessment, record check, background investigation, final interview with the Chief of Police, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, medical examination, and drug test.) Must establish and maintain a primary place of residence within a County within which the Police Department has jurisdiction, or a county contiguous with such County of jurisdiction. (List includes Franklin, Delaware, Union, Morrow, Marion, Hardin, Logan, Champaign, Madison, Pickaway, Fairfield, Licking, and Knox Counties.) Ability to acquire and maintain LEADS and NCIC certification. Ability to acquire and maintain certification (pursuant to state standards) for the operation of on-duty and off-duty firearms (i.e. shotgun, AR-15, 9mm, or 40 caliber handgun). Compliance with training directives established by supervisory/managerial personnel. Adherence to all applicable Federal and State safety laws, rules, and regulations and City safety policies/procedures. Regular and punctual attendance is regarded as an essential requirement of this classification.
