The Division of Art History in the University of Arizona's School of Art invites applications for a full-time position of Professor of Practice at the rank of Assistant Professor, on a one-year contract with the possibility of renewals and future multi-year contracts. We are seeking a candidate with a broad background in Art History, well-prepared to teach mostly courses at the undergraduate level, including those designated as General Education courses with large enrollments and diverse populations, as well as courses suited for undergraduate Art History majors. Teaching and/or developing some online (asynchronous) courses is also required for this position.

Duties & Responsibilities

Faculty in the School of Art are evaluated and promoted based on teaching, research, and service. As a Research-1 university, the University of Arizona has an expectation that faculty with a research percentage in their appointment engage in sustained research at the highest level, with peer-reviewed publications throughout ones career and other contributions to their field.

Faculty at all ranks actively participate in shared governance activities, with committee assignments at the School of Art, College of Fine Arts, or university level.

Candidates will effectively demonstrate an ability to foster and contribute to a culturally responsive and pluralistic learning environment and a sense of belonging for our students through teaching, mentorship, and recruitment.

The teaching load is 3/3, with service and potential research components. The percentage of research and service will be determined in consultation with the successful candidate based on their career goals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Command of appropriate pedagogical skills in support of efficacious teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and engaging undergraduate students.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in Art History or closely related field, completed by the start of the appointment.
  • Broad training in Art History, with an interest in interdisciplinary and innovative teaching approaches.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience beyond the TA level with demonstrated success as an Art History teacher
  • Experience with researching, public presentations and publications commensurate with the rank.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to an inclusive workplace and equitable learning environment through curriculum development, teaching, mentorship and recruitment.
