Applied R&D (AR) consists of target-oriented research either with the goal of solving a particular problem / answering a specific question or for multi-discipline design, development, and implementation of hardware, software, and systems including maintenance support. Supplies techno-economic consulting to clients. AR work is characterized by its detailed and complex nature in order to systematically combine existing knowledge and practices to further developing and incrementally improving products, operational processes, and customer-specific feature development.

Mechanical Hardware design comprises the specification, design, and implementation of mechanical assemblies while applying design targets such as low cost, high yield, and high reliability. Mechanical design requires a broad spectrum of skills including materials, design, simulation, ergonomics, aesthetic appeal and usability.

The Senior mechanical Engineer/Project Leader will be responsible for the design and development of the next generation multiblade systems for Nokia's IP product line. Experience with the design and implementation of multiblade systems for CSP and/or Data Centers is required. Experience leading mechanical project teams is essential.

Responsibilities:

  1. Design and implement Nokia's next generation multiblade systems.
  2. Lead a team of mechanical engineers to support the system design.
  3. Generate the mechanical specifications based on the PRD/MRD.
  4. Support the HW requirements.
  5. Ensure that the design meets all of the necessary requirements for Nokia products.
    1. Tolerance loop analysis.
    2. Component temperature margins.
    3. Customer expectations.
    4. DFx
    5. NEBS
  6. Manage manpower, budget, and schedule requirements from R&D into Pilot builds


Expertise

  1. Proficient with CREO
  2. Knowledge of sheet metal chassis design with the additional use of machine/extruded aluminum, injection molded plastic and diecast parts.
  3. Creative designs to meet customer requirements and cost goals.
  4. Experience using the best methods to contain and suppress radiated and conducted EMI.
  5. Knowledge of common finishes for metal corrosion protection.
  6. Knowledge of system cooling technologies; convection, forced convection, and liquid cooling.
  7. Knowledge of high-speed connector systems used in backplane and orthogonal connector configurations.
  8. Planning the mechanical R&D portion of the project, including budget, scope, and schedule up to the Pilot build.

Qualifications

  1. Must be able to work onsite on a normal basis.
  2. BSME is required, having a MSME is a plus.
  3. 10-15 years of experience designing multiblade systems for major CSPs and/or Data Center customers.
  4. 5+ years leading mechanical project teams on large scale chassis projects.
  5. Familiar with industry standards; EIA 310, IEC 60297, ETSI EN 300 119, and OCP rack standards.
  6. Ability to travel internationally, as needed.
