Job Description

Job Summary:

The Director of Internal Audit will lead the design, planning, and execution of internal audits for Nidec in the Americas region. The position is also responsible for ensuring Internal Audit is closely aligned with industry best practices in executing the duties across the company's business and financial operations. Works to ensure roles, responsibilities, and results are efficiently coordinated and collectively optimizing the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance of the company.

This position reports jointly to the Corporate Administration & Internal Audit Department of Nidec Corporation (JA) and the President of Nidec Americas Holding Corporation.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Establish department strategy, objectives and standards of performance and monitor accomplishments.
  • Develop and lead a team of internal auditors, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure high-quality audit engagements.
  • Lead Internal Audit's annual risk assessment and enterprise risk assessment and planning process to develop the audit plan and ensure the plan is responsive to and aligned with the risk profile of the organization.
  • Lead scoping efforts for management's SOX assessment and report on final assessment of internal controls over financial reporting for the fiscal year-end for management's review.
  • Oversee the execution of internal control and financial audits defined in the audit plan ensuring the highest level of service quality and client satisfaction.
  • Prepare the annual department budget and allocations, and ensure the department operates within the approved budget.
  • Serve as the liaison between the Corporate Administration & Internal Audit Department of Nidec Corporation (JA) and the business, ensuring global audit's expectations are disseminated and executed among the businesses.
  • Together with Compliance Counsel, address financial-related compliance matters in the Americas region and support in forensic investigations.
  • Proactively inform senior management of significant risks or exposures related to internal controls, compliance, and/or governance requiring prompt attention.
  • Issue all Internal Audit reports in a timely manner, ensuring they are clear and concise, identify root causes with practical remediation plans, and ultimately provide value to management.
  • Oversee the activities of external auditors, including understanding/advocating for service performed and cost control at the most efficient/effective level and how best to leverage the work performed and results produced from Internal Audit's work.
  • Ensure that Internal Audit is performing its work in accordance with established professional standards and remain abreast of emerging trends and best practices that can be incorporated into the function.
  • Support the focus on Compliance and Governance by actively participating in regional compliance committee activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools
  • Proficiency in GRC tools such as Workiva preferred
  • Fluency in English required. Spanish and/or Japanese language skills would be helpful in this role.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited 4-year college or university
  • CIA and/or CPA certification required
  • 10+ years of experience in public accounting or combination of public and private accounting including increasing management responsibility for audit functions
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience and the ability to manage and develop a team of local and remote staff
