Job Summary
The Blaster/Painter is responsible for preparing surfaces and applying protective coatings to equipment, structures, and other components. This includes operating abrasive blasting equipment, applying primers and finish coats, and performing quality inspections. The ideal candidate must follow safety protocols, demonstrate attention to detail, and contribute to a clean and safe work environment.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Show up to work on time and as scheduled.
- Complete and discuss a thorough Job Safety Analysis (JSA) prior to each task.
- Abrade surfaces of metal or hard-composition objects to remove paint, rust, grease, tar, and dirt using abrasive-blasting equipment.
- Load abrasive materials such as sand, grit, or shot of specified grade into the machine hopper.
- Mask designated areas of parts to protect them from the blasting process.
- Load parts onto racks, blasting platforms, or into cabinets for processing.
- Control equipment valves to regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture.
- Start and monitor blasting equipment to direct abrasive-laden flow onto part surfaces.
- Manually operate blasting nozzle or work through glove-fitted cabinets for smaller parts.
- Examine finished products to ensure compliance with required specifications.
- Apply paint, epoxy, enamel, and other coatings using spray guns, brushes, or rollers.
- Apply primers and sealers to prepare metal surfaces for finish coatings.
- Cover surfaces with masking materials to protect surrounding areas during painting.
- Protect the environment by adhering to best management practices during tasks.
- Maintain a positive attitude toward both customers and the company.
- Sweep and clean work area daily or as needed to maintain a safe and orderly workspace.
