Your Role on the Team

Position Summary:

Reports to the Manager of Cardiovascular Diagnostic Testing, this role integrates clinical, research responsibilities, and demonstrates competency in all duties typically performed by a non-invasive cardiovascular technologist. It involves supervising and providing advanced cardiopulmonary exercise testing, operating related equipment, and assisting with data collection, analysis, and including treadmill stress testing, nuclear stress imaging, pharmacological and exercise echocardiogram. Performs 24 hour ambulatory ECG and blood pressure monitoring and ECGs. Assists in the data management of the ECG, Stress and Holter system. Acts as the lead to the other treadmill & EKG technicians, responsible for training of new staff, does the monthly schedule, manages the equipment list for the department, evaluates new equipment, processes & tests. Assures that there is proper staffing for all rooms and areas. This role demonstrates proficiency in cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) procedures, including ECG monitoring and interpretation, and the administration and interpretation of ventilatory, gas-exchange, and hemodynamic parameters, as well as mechanical ventilation for basal metabolic rate and nutritional assessment. As the lead for the cardiopulmonary testing program, this role oversees CPET respiratory technicians, managing staff training, scheduling, equipment management, and the evaluation of new CPET equipment and processes. Additionally, it ensures adequate staffing levels and handles timecard approvals and staff evaluations.

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. or higher
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • A minimum of 2 years or more in cardiopulmonary exercise testing and pulmonary function testing.
  • Proficiency in various cardiopulmonary and pulmonary function tests.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the human cardiopulmonary system.
  • Familiarity with indications and contraindications for exercise/metabolic testing and termination criteria.
  • Proficiency in various exercise testing protocols (bike ergometer, treadmill, recumbent bike ergometer).
  • Competence in interpreting data related to patient status.
  • Knowledge of cardiac and pulmonary medications and their effects on exercise and testing.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn basal metabolic testing and nutritional assessment.
  • Knowledge of complex cardiac arrhythmias and medical terminology
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft software applications and common database systems.
  • Current BLS certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish and/or Vietnamese.
  • Experience with various non-invasive cardiac and pulmonary testing.
  • Knowledge of University and medical center policies, procedures, and forms.
  • Familiarity with Title 22 and JCAHO standards.
  • Experience with electronic health records and conducting research in a clinical setting.
  • Experience in conducting research in a clinical setting.
