Position Summary
The Mathematics, Engineering, and Computer Science Division of UNM-Valencia is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor of Computer Science or Computer Science/Mathematics at UNM-Valencia. This posting is for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position. The position begins on August 11, 2025. Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque in rural Valencia County, the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-year branch community college associated with the University of New Mexico. With an emphasis on teaching excellence, the Valencia Campus offers vocational and technical courses and academic transfer courses to the citizens of Valencia and northern Socorro counties. The faculty and staff serve a student body of approximately 2,300 each semester. Salary: The base salary range for a nine-month faculty position is $57,000. Summer teaching is possible and optional with additional compensation. Office space, computer hardware, software, and an excellent benefits package will be provided. Summary of duties and responsibilities: Provide 12 credit hours of classroom instruction in computer science and/or mathematics content courses during the fall and spring semesters. Responsibilities also include maintaining attendance, scholastic, and student records and posting and maintaining office hours, some of which may occur in the Learning Commons. Additionally, there is expected participation in college committees, curriculum development initiatives, outcomes assessment, professional development (directly related to the teaching field), classroom technology training, departmental projects, and other areas of service and scholarship as appropriate. Responsibilities may include participation in Undergraduate Research initiatives related to current grant awards (as applicable).
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in Computer Science or Mathematics or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Computer Science. One or more years of teaching college-level Computer Science or Mathematics classes at a post-secondary institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or ABD (all but dissertation) in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Computer Science.
- Two or more years of teaching a wide range of Computer Science and Mathematics courses at a two-year, post-secondary institution.
- Commitment to and potential for service and professional development.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
- Experience working with computer-based instruction, calculators, and other technology in the classroom.
- Experience teaching online or hybrid/blended courses.
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, student success, and working with broadly diverse communities.
