Job Summary

The Assistant Director is responsible for facilitating the programming services of the Office of Restorative Justice Practices. The Assistant Director functions as an experienced professional with a full understanding of how to carry out diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in compliance with government legislation and management directives. Works on diversity, equity, and inclusion/accessibility assignments that are diverse and complex in scope. In this role, the Assistant Director is responsible for developing and facilitating Restorative Justice Practices programmatic offerings, such as Restorative Circles and Community Circles, trainings, workshops, presentations, and outreach services. Additionally, the Assistant Director assists in facilitating the training for UCSF RJ facilitators. The Assistant Director partners with other UC campuses to learn and share best practices. The role's scope encompasses the university and UCSF Health.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $75,700 - $160,500 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Industry Contracts Division (ICD) of the UCSF Office of Sponsored Research is responsible for negotiating and signing all industry research contracts between UCSF and Industry Sponsors. This includes clinical trial agreements, material transfer agreements (incoming materials of all types and outgoing clinical specimen or data), sponsored research agreements, grants, and confidentiality agreements, unfunded research collaborations, equipment loan agreements, clinical service agreements and other research agreements with industry.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Three (3) or more years of related work experience
  • Has thorough knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion and can apply more advanced subject matter knowledge in the completion of diversity, equity and inclusion assignments
  • Knowledge of social justice and multicultural theories to guide work
  • Knowledge in the specialist subject area - Restorative Justice
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse, multicultural constituencies
  • Experience in the development and delivery of presentations, workshops, and large-scale events
  • Ability to gather, organize, complete analysis, and develop recommendations in the completion of assignments
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff. Ability to influence, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality
  • Possesses excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Excellent organizational skills to prioritize and complete multiple tasks and meet deadlines in an environment of changing and competing priorities
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with team members, other units, and stakeholders on and off campus. Required
  • Ability to anticipate problems and issues, and resourcefulness to determine appropriate solutions and act to mitigate potential negative effects in unplanned situations
  • Strong analytical / problem-solving skills
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills with an emphasis on educating diverse constituencies and building community and shared responsibility
