I. Major Responsibilities:

Nursing Practice
1. Utilizes a professional governance model to oversee patient care management and ensure professional nursing is practiced in accordance with established standards of regulatory and nursing standards of practice at UMMMC.
2. Coordinates deployment of resources in perioperative services to ensure ongoing implementation of nursing processes, adherence to standards, and compliance to BORN regulatory standards.
3. Assists staff with the development of a cohesive, service-oriented team, serving as role model, mentor, coach/facilitator.
4. Monitors competence of nursing staff and provides education to complete required competencies. Monitors continuing education participation.

Operations
5. Assures the efficient daily operations of perioperative services, including appropriate staffing, appropriate use of supplies, workflow, and productivity to budget.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Bachelor in Business Administration
2. Massachusetts Registered Nurse license required.
3. Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification

Preferred:
1. MBA or MSN.

Experience/Skill:
Required:
1. A minimum of three years of directly related work experience in hospital or healthcare environment, with two years of OR experience.
2. Previous leadership/management experience..
3. Interpersonal skills essential to handle highly sensitive issues and programs, maintain effective communication between perioperative staff, physicians, department heads and other hospital personnel in exchanging information and aiding in program solving.
4. Must have proven track record of fostering teamwork.
5. Analytical skills necessary in order to perform various data analysis techniques, review statistical data for the purpose of department planning and control, in the preparation and maintenance of budgets and in problem solving.
6. Strong working knowledge of principles and practices of perioperative services.
7. Formal LEAN training within 6 months of employment.

Preferred:
1. Must be knowledgeable in LEAN techniques and utilize those principles in process improvement activities.

Important to have some knowledge of operating room and SACU/PACU functions to support this ambulatory surgery departmen
