As a member of the interdisciplinary care team, the nurse contributes professional knowledge and clinical expertise in the delivery and management of care for patients and their families. Nurses maintain a practice environment that reflects the ANA Code of Ethics, the UnityPoint Health Philosophy of Nursing, and the Professional Nurse Practice Model, working collaboratively with all caregivers.

The MICU is a 12-bed unit that provides specialized care for acutely ill medical patients in a high-acuity setting. Our nurses are highly trained in advanced monitoring and the management of ventilated patients. The team also oversees complex therapies, including intra-aortic balloon pumps, CRRT, and vasoactive medication infusions. Nurse-to-patient ratios are determined by acuity, with most assignments maintained at a 1:2 ratio to ensure safe, attentive, and high-quality care.

The SICU is a 8-bed surgical unit provides specialized care for acutely ill post-operative patients. Our team manages a wide range of advanced therapies and technologies, including intra-aortic balloon pumps, CRRT, and vasoactive medication infusions. Nurses in this unit receive extensive training in the recovery and ongoing care of immediate post-operative open-heart patients. In addition to cardiac surgery, the unit cares for a diverse mix of trauma, thoracic, vascular, and abdominal surgery cases.
