DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will evaluate and determine inmate potential for consideration and placement within the program's curriculum. You will adapt curriculum materials to meet the specific needs of each student and employ a variety of teaching methods and strategies to present the content at an appropriate instructional level. Your responsibilities include providing both classroom and hands-on instruction in a wide array of custodial maintenance trades subjects and skillsets relevant to maintenance, electrical, and warehousing. Additional duties involve updating and maintaining inmate education records, tracking student attendance, and managing inventory and payroll. You will also monitor inmate behavior, establish classroom rules, and create an environment that fosters effective learning.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $63,053.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Education equivalent to high school graduation and two years wage earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in the specified parenthetical; or
  • If there is no approved apprenticeship period for the specified parenthetical, education equivalent to high school graduation and three years of wage earning experience in the specified parenthetical.
  • Please Note: The specified parenthetical for this posting is Building Trades/Custodial Maintenance and Repair. The specific apprenticeship period for this parenthetical is 2 years.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Certificate I or II for the specified parenthetical; or
  • This position requires possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Intern Certificate for the specified parenthetical; or
  • This position requires eligibility for a Pennsylvania Department of Education Emergency Certificate for the specified parenthetical.

Conditions of Employment:

  • You must maintain the minimum teaching certification for the specified parenthetical as defined by the Pennsylvania Department of Education's current regulations.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
