Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

The Assistant Project Manager performs a variety of increasingly complex and technical duties related to the facilities planning and construction program; Scope of services to include, but are not limited to:

    Assists in providing on site leadership, coordination, and direction for construction management activities on DSA projects.
  • Knowledge of contracts, drawings, estimates, and specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements for DSA projects.
  • Assists with oversight of progress of construction.
  • Assists in coordinating and monitoring activities of contractors/subcontractors, engineers, architects, and related performing entities.
  • Coordinates the review and approval of substitution submittals, RFIs and CCD's to ensure specification requirements are met.
  • Responds to requests for clarification from contractors and keeps a log of such requests.
  • Coordinate with site staff to communicate the progress and act as a conduit of information from the site to the project team.
  • Assists Construction Manager in managing project controls, cost, schedule, performance activities, and procedures or as required by the client.
  • Conducts project meetings and provide meeting minutes, documentation, administration, and tracking of relevant information.
  • Ensures contractors, architects, and engineers will adhere to contractual requirements on areas of safety, performance, project staff, and equipment.
  • Assists in providing management of project logistics, organization and safety.
  • Ensures project closeout to obtain guarantees, warranties, and related provisions for turnover to the owner, including DSA closeout requirements.
  • Provide project coordination and management support to department activities and projects in all facets of construction.
  • Prepare and maintain of a variety of reports, records and files related to assigned activities; compose written and oral communications to convey information in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and deliver oral presentations as requested.
  • May supervise field administrative staff and Field/Project Engineers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or Architecture is required (Extensive relevant construction management experience in place of education may be considered).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Assistant Construction Manager is required.
  • Experience with DSA / public projects in California is required.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Knowledge of project controls/scheduling, documentation, engineering/construction principles, techniques, materials, applications, and practices is required.
  • Community college and/or large project ($50m+) experience preferred.
  • Experience with CEQA and DTSC documents and processes is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite products, Bluebeam, Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software and experience with project-related Construction Management systems are preferred.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and geographic location. The Salary range for this position is $110,000-$115,000.
