DESCRIPTION

Under general direction of the Student Affairs Manager and in consultation with the Chair, MSO, and faculty committees, this position provides programmatic and academic advising to prospective and current graduate students in the Chemical Engineering and NanoEngineering Programs.

Coordinates graduate admissions including outreach, matriculation and graduation; coordinates financial support for incoming graduate students, including recommendations for Teaching Assistant, Reader and Tutor hours; charged with full responsibility for the financial aspects of graduate student support; manages a computerized database and produces reports and/or recommendations based on evaluation of data.

Reviews, coordinates, and edits the quarterly schedule of classes and orders textbooks. Prepares and updates student affairs/academic program content for the department website. This position also assists and serves as the backup to undergraduate affairs.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

  • Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.

  • Knowledge of and demonstrated working experience in student affairs operation at the university level.

  • Working knowledge of graduate and undergraduate admissions policies and procedures.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral skills with the ability to compose original and/or confidential correspondence and reports. Ability to write accurate and detailed correspondence, reports, and procedures.

  • Ability to work with diverse populations. Skills in service orientation, organization, active listening, and critical thinking. Demonstrated ability at presenting a positive, professional and helpful impression and working as a team member.

  • Ability to resolve conflicts while encouraging and developing collaborative positive professional relationships.

  • Ability to utilize independent decision-making skills. Demonstrated effective problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to identify research and analyze complex situations, recommend solutions and determine action steps to be taken to affect resolutions.

  • Ability to multi-task; verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignment with minimal direction.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Exhibit tact, diplomacy, flexibility and courtesy in a professional manner.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be willing to work occasional overtime for special events or projects.

  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive materials and issues.

  • This position is a mandated reporter of known or suspected child abuse or neglect, according to the California law, Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA).

  • Job offer contingent upon clear background check.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $53,800 - $91,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $25.77 - $43.58

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
