About This Role

The Kansas State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Diagnostic Technician I. This position exists to assist with diagnostic specimens and to utilize selective media preparations to enhance the isolation and identification of pathogenic bacteria and to conduct antibacterial sensitivity testing. This employee will assist the laboratory supervisor and other collect faculty in ongoing research projects by isolating and selecting pure colonies of bacteria for identification and pathogenicity studies and refer to reference laboratories where appropriate. The person in this position will assist with analyzing this information and translates it into a report for our clients.


Worksite Option

This position is required to be performed on-site. Work is performed on employer premises or designated assignment location.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Requires a high school diploma and two years of relevant experience. This position may use an educational equivalency as determined relevant by a hiring manager.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • One or more years experience with diagnostic microbiology
  • Experience in veterinary diagnostic setting preferred
  • Ability to establish and maintain records
  • Ability to work well with people
  • Ability to work weekends and additional hours as necessary
  • Ability to know the differences in pathogenic vs. non-pathogenic bacterial growth
  • Decision making skills
  • Computer skills and ability to use a database software package
  • Knowledge of handling pathogens
  • Organization and communication skills
