POSITION DETAILS 

The Admin Executive Officer reports to the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Hunter College and plays a crucial role in providing executive and project support, leading strategic development, and executing high-priority objectives that align with the School's mission and CUNY's commitment to academic excellence. This position acts as a strategic advisor to the Dean, identifying and prioritizing issues that require the Dean's attention, while ensuring timely execution of initiatives that advance the School's goals. As a key member of the Dean's leadership team, the Admin Executive Officer collaborates closely with the Dean to manage commitments and deliverables, driving organizational progress. This includes designing critical meetings and events that align with the School's priorities and optimizing the dean's time. The Admin Executive Officer will lead high-priority initiatives and manage projects, including lecture series, faculty development workshops, and media campaigns. They will also oversee decision-making related to speaking engagements, delegate responsibilities for projects that do not require the Dean's direct involvement, and track progress to ensure timely completion. As a member of the senior leadership team reporting directly to the Dean and serving as the Dean's primary strategic liaison with the School's faculty, staff, students and the community at large, the Admin Executive Officer develops, implements and oversees complex internal and external projects within the purview of the Dean's portfolio to ensure effective administration, clear communications, and smooth daily office operations. This role anticipates and identifies issues for discussion at key high-level meetings, works closely with the Dean of the School, an executive office of three assistant Deans, and with senior leadership team members in the development and implementation of high-level projects. 

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Admin Executive Officer will:

  • Serve as Admin Executive Officer, working closely with the Dean, Associate Deans, and senior staff, with responsibility for monitoring and implementing divisional projects and priorities
  • Represent the Dean on various committees and task forces; serve as a member of and administer the Dean's Cabinet and Deans and Directors meetings
  • Participate in strategic planning and school-wide policy development and implementation
  • Oversee projects with college-wide impact, ensuring and evaluating their implementation and success
  • Manage and prepare high-level correspondence, internal and external communications on behalf of the Dean and associate/assistant Deans; resolve issues on behalf of the Dean and associate/assistant Deans. Monitor the Dean's outward-facing email account and resolve/respond on behalf of the Dean
  • Research and respond to complex questions related to various areas of the institution
  • Compose a variety of written and spoken materials on behalf of the Dean and associate Deans
  • Review and approve documents from all School areas as necessary
  • Serve on high level committees
  • Oversee special projects

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required. 

Preferred qualifications include:

  • PhD (or other terminal degree) or a master's degree
  • Substantial and progressively responsible experience providing high-level support within higher education; CUNY

experience preferred

  • Understanding of the overall mission and vision of the school; ability to interpret policy and familiarity with emerging trends in higher education, particularly within the liberal arts.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and negotiate in a complex, dynamic environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a record of success in fostering collaboration
  • Proven experience providing high level support to senior executive administration
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Diplomacy and demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively across faculty, staff, student, and external constituencies
  • Excellent organizational skills

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

As a senior staff member in a Campus or University Executive's office, leads unit initiatives, participates in planning and setting priorities, and drives strategic initiatives to ensure their success. 

- Participates in planning and in setting policies with responsibility for preparing aspects of strategic and operational plans.  Participates in developing and executing performance management systems to evaluate progress. 

- Works with other Campus and University units to oversee complex, high-priority projects, with responsibility for outcomes. 

- Represents the Executive in Campus or University-wide activities and may act in his/her place when required. 

- Independently carries out major responsibilities under the Executive's purview, such as monitoring and evaluating unit activities, financial planning and review, serving as chair of key committees, and communications with senior Campus or University management. 

- May serve as Chief of Staff of a large Executive Office. 

- Performs related duties as assigned.

Salary commensurate with education and experience, within approved range: $115,333- $132,987.
