Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of History is essential to the core of liberal arts at North Carolina Central University. Our diverse population of faculty and students are involved in teaching and learning history through innovative research, exciting courses, student projects, digital humanities, public history, and service learning.
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of the position is to manage student records, financial, and administrative support duties in the Department of History. The position is responsible for the office, purchasing, budget, reports, travel authorizations, chair's calendar, facility, and data management while providing administrative support to the chairperson and faculty. The technological aspect involves the maintenance, operation, and inventory of office equipment. The position serves as an internal/external liaison between department and faculty/students/university administration/community. The position requires the ability to learn and possess thorough knowledge of department functions and university policies and procedures.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The successful candidate must possess a working knowledge of Student Banner or an equivalent system; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Applications; knowledge of retention issues and strategies pertaining to participants and of post-secondary institutional and community resources; knowledge of budget and office management; knowledge of assessing and evaluating programs; knowledge of writing reports; knowledge of planning special events and meetings; ability to work with students including managing student records; ability to work independently with little or no supervision; to take initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion; to learn, interpret and analyze information to make necessary decisions; to exercise judgment and discretion in problem solving; to plan, prioritize and organize workflow; excellent analytical and organizational skills along with written and oral communication skills, excellent editing skills; outstanding interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of individuals in a high pressure environment.

High School Diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Efficient written communication is needed in planning projects, composing minutes, producing advertisements, reports, and record keeping.

Duties
The person in this position will perform administrative tasks that keep the office running smoothly day to day. Specific tasks include maintaining office equipment and supplies, taking office inventory, using word processing and other relevant computer applications for travel arrangements, budgeting, and preparing reports.

Duties

Duties
Duties associated with problem-solving include evaluating the issue at hand, identifying the people involved, staying current on university procedures, identifying and implementing a solution, and employing a plan of prevention.

Duties
The person in this position must know the program's overall scope, including the mission and goals, courses, faculty and staff, majors, budget information, season, and public relations. and production operations. Additionally, this office administrator must know specific plays and programs within the department.


Required Competency Information/Records Administration
Duties
Information and record management for this position includes maintaining financial records, weekly departmental meetings, the student handbook, program and student learning outcomes, class schedules, curricula, productions, student, faculty, and staff records, public relations information, and equipment inventory.

Duties
Budgeting duties include executing all budget submissions, maintaining budgeting policies and procedures, and monitoring the budget.
