Pay Rate/Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $25.77 - $30.22/hr.

The full salary range for this position is $25.77 - $43.58/hr. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.

Work Location: Student Resource Building - 2260

Working Days and Hours: Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM. Occasional nights and weekends may be required.

Type of Remote or Hybrid Work Arrangement, if applicable: Hybrid work schedule will be considered after the probationary period has been completed and as long as hybrid arrangements are approved by the Division of Student Affairs. Incumbent must be available to be in the office as requested or full time should operational needs require it.

Brief Summary of Job Duties:

The Coordinator, Fraternity & Sorority Life is a professional who has a specialization in fraternity & sororities (FSL) and additionally contributes to all units in Student Engagement & Leadership (SEAL), which includes campus organizations and student leadership development, is a member of the Directors work group, serves as a department liaison to several campus departments, and will be staff lead for significant programmatic responsibility in FSL. The coordinator is the University advisor for one to two of the five FSL governing councils (Collegiate Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Professional Fraternity Council, and the United Sorority & Fraternity Council) and will assist with the department's assessment initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Professional who applies acquired skills in the realm of advising and counseling techniques to complete substantive assignments, projects, tasks of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Knowledge of University and departmental policies and procedures related to campus activities, including risk assessment.
  • Knowledge of Student Life specialization, a discipline within the student Affairs profession.
  • Exercises judgement within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • Abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.

Misconduct Disclosure Requirement:

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

50% University Advisor for Fraternity & Sorority Life

Serves as the primary University advisor to one to two of the five FSL governing councils (Collegiate Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Professional Fraternity Council, and the United Sorority & Fraternity Council). The fraternity & sorority community consists of 50+ chapters and more than 2,600 members and is subject to both University policies and extensive national policies and procedures. Promotes alignment among community behavior, policy standards, and the pillars of the fraternal movement, especially academic excellence, siblinghood, cultural competency, and civic and community engagement through community service and philanthropy. Advises student leaders on matters related to organizational management and finance, member recruitment, conduct proceedings, member development, alum engagement, and other pertinent topics. Trains several council and chapter executives, particularly in the areas of member recruitment, new member programming, and risk management. Maintains close working relationships with (inter)national and regional staff members from applicable umbrella organizations and UCSB-recognized fraternities/sororities as well as alum. This position will directly advise a portfolio of 15 - 20 chapters. As an advisor to the fraternity/sorority community on campus, this position plays a significant role in representing the community to alumni and community member constituencies, i.e., serving on various community and campus committees.

30% Fraternity & Sorority Life Programming Lead

Specialize in supporting, facilitating, and developing programmatic initiatives for fraternity and sorority life in areas of community building, cultural competence, risk prevention and mitigation, professional and personal development, mental and physical health and wellness, leadership theory and practices, and other pertinent topics. Liaise with campus and community stakeholders to ensure content experts are able to provide relevant and resonant sessions for participants.

10% Directors Workgroup

Collaborates with other SEAL staff members to carry out the programmatic innovation and assessment functions of the unit, and also serves as an assigned liaison to multiple campus/Student Affairs division departments in order to maintain collaborative interdepartmental relationships. *Proposes and implements programmatic improvements across all units of the office in order to continually improve its effectiveness. May be required to perform other duties as assigned.

10% Supervision of Student Life Student Interns (Shared)

Supports the department with all aspects of the hiring, training, and supervision (including formal discipline) of 10-12 casual/student employees. SEAL Student Interns expand the programmatic reach and advising capacity of the office while providing educational professional development opportunities to current students. Collaborates to write job descriptions around prioritized student learning outcomes and department needs and recruits applicants using Handshake and by participating in on-campus job fairs in order to attract a diverse pool of candidates. Supports the coordination of application materials review and interviews in order to select candidates who will be able to perform job tasks satisfactorily and who are likely to benefit from the para-professional experience of working in SEAL. Supports the coordination of training, both at the beginning of a student's employment and throughout their tenure as needed, in order to ensure that student employees are providing excellent customer service, accurate information, and high-quality services and programs to all constituents. Supports the coordination of shifts and projects based on workload, demonstrated skills, and student employee interests. Supports the coordination of providing direct feedback of both positive and constructive nature to student employees throughout their tenure. Conducts at least one formal (written) performance evaluation per student employee, per year. Shares supervisory responsibility with other professional staff to ensure continuity.
