Serves as a specialized resource that negotiates material transfer agreements and confidential disclosure agreements.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Material Transfer Agreements: Drafts, reviews and negotiates material transfer agreements (MTAs) with support from supervisor: (i) for the outbound transfer of Hospital-owned materials and technologies to for-profit and non-profit organizations for use in research; and (ii) for the in-bound receipt of materials and technology from for-profit and non-profit organizations for the Hospital's research.
- Confidential Disclosure Agreements: Drafts, reviews and negotiates confidential disclosure agreements (CDAs) with support from supervisor to protect Hospital's technologies and to effect business discussions and technology transfer. Knowledge of Institutional Policies and Applicable
- Law: Acquires and maintains knowledge of (a) Hospital's policies and procedures applicable to MTAs, CDAs and intellectual property, (b) applicable Harvard faculty policies, (c) other academic and professional standards for the conduct and administration of MTAs and CDAs, (d) and laws related to technology transfer in the non-profit setting.
- Human Samples: Demonstrates an ability and willingness to learn the laws, regulations and institutional policies related to the transfer and use of human samples, including privacy laws such as HIPAA and GDPR.
- Relationship Management: Maintains effective working relationships with Hospital employees, the Harvard Medical School faculty, affiliated hospitals, universities and for-profit corporations worldwide with respect to negotiating CDAs and MTAs.
- Communication: Good communication skills, both written and oral. Ability to respond promptly to emails and requests for information. Ability, with support from supervisor, to effectively communicate complex issues MTA to faculty stakeholders.
- Team Work: Must work effectively in matrixed organization with multiple team members on projects. Prioritization: Ability to work in busy dynamic environment and manage multiple projects at once, ability to prioritize, with support from supervisor.
- Critical Thinking: Ability to solve complex problems which involve either legal, business or scientific variables.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required with preference for advanced law and/or Life Sciences degree
- 1-2 years of experience in Life Sciences preferred or research strongly preferred.
- Ability to understand broad areas of life sciences research
- Ability to interact effectively with researchers and company and academic representatives to negotiate MTAs and CDAs.
- Demonstrates ability and willingness to learn about patent and copyright laws.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in use of databases, Microsoft Office and other project management software.
- Demonstrates willingness to work in a team-oriented, matrixed environment.
- Ability to handle many activities at once; strong multi-tasking ability.
