Role Description & Responsibilities

BIOVIA is looking for a motivated R&D Senior Director to join our R&D team in San Diego, CA or in our Waltham, MA office, in an onsite/hybrid role.

This role will be focused on overseeing the architecture and software development of our laboratory informatics portfolio from the current industry-leading suite to an integrated platform thereby enabling scientists across biopharmaceuticals, consumer products, chemicals, and materials to move rapidly from design of experiments to data acquisition, machine learning, and decisions.




  • Leadership & Team Management:


    • Lead, mentor, and inspire a large teams of software engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and high performance across San Diego, Boston, Bangalore, and beyond. Provide technical guidance, career development, and performance management
    • Recruit and retain top engineering talent
    • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the organization


  • Technical Strategy & Execution:


    • Define and drive the technical strategy for our laboratory informatics platform
    • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of robust, scalable, and secure software solutions. Champion best practices in software engineering, including agile methodologies, DevOps, and DevSecOps
    • Ensure alignment with industry standards and regulatory requirements


  • Program & Project Management:


    • Manage a portfolio of complex software development projects, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery
    • Define project scope, timelines, and resources
    • Track progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies
    • Communicate effectively with stakeholders on project status and updates


  • Architecture & Technology:


    • Provide architectural leadership and oversight for enterprise and cloud-based systems
    • Drive technology selection and adoption, staying abreast of industry trends. Ensure the platform's scalability, performance, and security


Qualifications

* Advanced Education in Science, Engineering, and Computer Science at a graduate level preferred

* 10+ years of experience in software engineering

* At least 5+ years in a leadership role managing large teams

* Prior experience working in laboratories and on laboratory software also preferred.

* Technical Skills: Strong understanding of enterprise and cloud software architecture with microservices

* Expertise in DevSecOps principles and practices. Proficient in Java, Groovy, Python, JavaScript, and/or C/C++

* Experience with data modeling and database management (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, NoSQL)

* Familiarity with laboratory informatics systems (ELN, LIMS, LES) is a plus

* Leadership & Management: Proven ability to build, manage, and motivate high-performing engineering teams

* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities

* Experience with Agile methodologies and project management frameworks

Compensation for this role will be commensurate with experience. The total expected compensation range will be between $235,000 and $280,000, representing the base salary (or annualized salary based on estimated hourly compensation) and target bonus.

Dassault Systemes offers an excellent salary with potential for bonus, commensurate with experience.
