PHLEBOTOMIST

The Phlebotomist provides all blood draws for the facility per physician order.

Primary Responsibilities and Job Specifications

1. Draws blood samples per protocol, marks and sends these samples to the facility approved laboratory for processing.
2. Conducts glucose or clotting tests as needed.
3. Reports results and maintains records of samples drawn on each patient.
4. Assist in the escort of patients, if necessary.
5. Adhere to facility, department, corporate, personnel and standard policies and procedures.
6. Attend all mandatory facility in services and staff development activities, as appropriate.
7. Adhere to facility standards concerning conduct, dress, attendance and punctuality.
8. Support facility wide quality and performance improvement objectives.
9. Maintain confidentiality of facility employees and patient information.
10. Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines.
11. Ability to demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience and dedication.
12. Ability to accept direction.

Experience/Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Two (2) years experience with phlebotomy and previous hospital experience is preferred.

Additional Requirements: Ability to work occasional overtime and flexible hours as requested.

Trained in non-violent physical crisis intervention and CPR prior to accepting independent assignment or released from orientation.
