Why work as a Nurse Navigator?

The Medical Oncology Nurse Navigator is responsible and accountable for coordinating the clinical care of patients in the Cancer Center for medical oncology practice:



  • works closely with medical oncologists and other members of the interdisciplinary team to promote a coordinated approach to care; provides continuity for the patient in navigating the patient through the continuum of care.
  • participates in program development and quality initiatives, Functions as the patient advocate and liaison with inpatient and outpatient members of the treatment team.
  • Provides clinical collaboration with the staff nurses, provides support for clinical problems, educates staff to foster evidence-based clinical practice, and works with manager to facilitate nursing practice and quality patient care.
  • Acts as a mentor to the Triage Office, telephone triage role, and off campus satellites.
  • The Nurse Navigator serves as a link between the patient, the physician and services that will be needed, providing education, support and resources for the cancer patient and family members.
  • The Nurse Navigator functions in accordance with professional practice standards as set forth by the American Nurses Association, PA Nurse Practice Act, regulatory standards and MLH policies and procedures.


Position: Medical Oncology Nurse Navigator
Shift: Nine 8hr shifts every two weeks: 8am-4:30pm

Experience:
1.1+ year(s) of recent Oncology Nurse experience preferred

Education:
1. BSN required, MSN preferred.

Licensures/Certifications:

1. PA RN license OR a multi-state license verified in one of the approved states through the Nursing Licensure Compact.
2. Provider BLS (American Heart Assoc/American Red Cross) preferred.

3.Current certification in oncology nursing by ONS preferred within two (2) years of hire date
