Minimal Qualifications:

  • Associate degree (A.S., A.A.) or two-year technical certificate in Physical Education or related area;
  • 1 year training or recreation related experience.
  • Minimum Education Qualification can be substituted with an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.



Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree.
  • Experience working Physical Education or related area.



Work Hours
Normally scheduled Monday through Friday; however, may be required to work other shifts to include evenings and/or weekends. Schedule subject to change based upon department needs.


Compensation
The annual salary is $35,810-$39,003. A competitive benefit package is included.

Class Summary

Typical Essential Duties

  • Conducts aerobic, weight training, and other exercise classes; ensures that patrons perform exercises in an accurate and safe manner
  • Coordinates exercise and class schedules, and tracks attendance.
  • Performs minor maintenance on and cleans fitness equipment and machines.
  • Performs clerical duties, to include performing data entry, record keeping, processing payments and deposits, and stocking supplies.



Knowledge

  • Knowledge of fitness center equipment and machines;
  • Knowledge of biomechanics principles;
  • Knowledge of physical and mechanical range of motion principles;
  • Knowledge of exercise science principles and theories;
  • Knowledge of customer service principles;



Skills

  • Skilled in providing customer service;
  • Skilled in developing exercise programs for clients;
  • Skilled in evaluating the physical fitness of individuals;
  • Skilled in cleaning and maintaining fitness equipment and machines;
  • Skilled in using a computer and related software applications;
  • Skilled in utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and others sufficient to exchange or convey information.

Physical Requirements
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, crouching, grasping, hearing, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking. The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
