POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

Afognak Native Corporation has an exciting opportunity for a Sr Payroll Tax Accountant to join our team in Finance. The position has the potential of being a remote opportunity. The Sr. Payroll Tax Accountant isresponsible for maintenance, reconciliation and review of general ledger accounts associated with assigned companies and/or GL accounts. This position assists the Payroll Tax Supervisor with all aspects of payroll taxes including periodic and quarterly processing, as well as tax notices, system setup and integration, and researching complex tax issues. The Senior Payroll Tax Accountant requires both a broad and thorough knowledge of the payroll discipline and multi-state taxes.



  • Assists with periodic, quarterly, and year end payroll tax filings to include W2's
  • Assists with processing tax, garnishment, and wire payments
  • Assists with preparing and maintaining reconciliation files for all accounts assigned
  • Extensive research, review, and reconciling of general ledger accounts and resolving complex tax issues
  • Assists with ensuring proper system setup of taxes
  • Prepare journal entries
  • AP/ Payroll voucher processing
  • Assists with Schedule L reconciliations
  • Other duties as assigned


Payrate:$65,000 to $80,000 Annually

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Two to four years' general ledger accounting experience (related education may be substituted for experience).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of payroll taxes (Federal, state, and local tax regulations) and deductions.
  • Must be familiar with payroll software and procedures used for processing taxes (ADP Tax Software).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail required.
  • Proven ability to work as a team player.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and handle stressful situations.
  • Dependable
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general accepted accounting practices (GAAP).
  • High School/GED Required, Associates or higher preferred in related field.
  • Must be able to operate office machines, including a computer, copier, fax, 10-key by touch as well as make arithmetic calculations.
