Wage range based on experience: $33.16 - $48.09 HOURLY

Shift is a M-F day shift with flexibility, must also have flexibility to cover rotational weekends, on call, and holidays. This lab is in NWSH, with hospital coverage expectations.

Summary:

As a Clinical Laboratory Lead, you will perform waived, moderately complex, and/or high complexity clinical laboratory tests and analyses of human blood, urine, and other body fluids to obtain data for use in the diagnosis, management and treatment of disease and injury. Your specific areas of accountability may include one or more of the following disciplines: prenatal blood tests, chemistry/immunoassay, coagulation, hematology, microbiology, immunology, toxicology and/or urinalysis. You will assist the Clinical Laboratory Director with organizing, training, and managing laboratory staff.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in training laboratory staff.
  • Support supervisor in the coordination of daily activities of their location's personnel to ensure daily workflow gets completed.
  • Assist with scheduling as needed.
  • Assist in the hiring of employees.
  • Provide feedback regarding discipline and performance evaluations.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to laboratory staff.
  • Operate and maintain standard lab instruments and equipment.
  • Perform, analyze, interprete, and confirm tests.
  • Perform some manual testing.
  • Report test results by electronic systems.
  • Monitor, control, and assess ongoing test conditions, specimen quality, chemical and biologic reactions, and instrument function.
  • Identify atypical organisms.
  • Correlate quantitative, biochemical, physiologic, and morphologic data to verify results.
  • Become proficient with new analyzers and procedures.
  • Ensure the accuracy of test results based on strict adherence to established standards, procedures and regulatory requirements for test analysis, quality control, and quality assurance.
  • Follow all safety and blood-borne pathogen/infection control guidelines and regulations for specimen handling and chemical use.
  • Keep current on regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in committees and task forces as needed.
  • Ability to take rotating call during nights and weekends.
  • Location dependent: coordinates and establishes procedures for point of care testing.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Phlebotomy responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Biology or Previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493. 1433 published in March 14, 1990.
  • ASCP/NCA/equivalent certification in Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science or Clinical Laboratory Science.

Skills and Abilities

  • 3+ years of full-time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in Chemistry/Immunoassay, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Blood Banking, Serology, Microbiology, and/or Clinical Microscopy.
  • Familiarity with quality programs, processes, and tools.
  • Ability to work with individuals at all organizational levels, including peers, team members, supervisors, managers, and other departments.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-directed, open to new learning experiences.
  • Ability to organize, manage, and delegate work as needed.
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining quality and efficiency.
