Teaching Assistant Professor, Art Therapy - School of Art & Design

Description

The School of Art and Design at West Virginia University is seeking applications for the position of Teaching Assistant Professor of Art Therapy and program coordinator. WVU offers a BA in Art Therapy, minor in Therapeutic Art, and a Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Art. The position is a full time, 9-month appointment, non-tenure track, and can achieve promotion. Starting date is August 15 and classes begin August 20, 2025. This is an in-person, on-campus faculty appointment.

Responsibilities:
Teaching (80%)



  • Teach all levels of Art Therapy courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels as needed. Teaching assignment is normally four (3-credit hour) courses per semester.


Service (20%)



  • Coordinate Art Therapy program with a focus on the scheduling of classes, staffing, course development, and curriculum updates.
  • Participate in School, College, and University committee assignments as needed. Engage in student recruitment and retention initiatives.

Each School offers a range of undergraduate and graduate degrees addressing such fields as the creative and performing arts, advertising and communications, arts education and scholarship, design disciplines, journalism, marketing and public relations, museum studies, the recording industry, theatre technology, and the intersection of art and health.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:



  • Must have a Master's-level degree in Art Therapy or a closely related field
  • Must be a Registered Art Therapist-Board Certified (ATR-BC)
  • Minimum two years teaching experience at the college level
  • Written and oral communication skills consistent with and complementary to the expectations of a flagship research university.
  • All required qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Ph.D. in Art Therapy or related discipline
  • Experience in attracting and retaining students in the discipline.
