The Excel Center Director will be an active leadership role of opening and directing The Excel Center Kansas City.

The Excel Center Kansas City is an accredited, free high school serving Missouri residents age 21+ in the Kansas City area who want to earn a high school diploma. The school will be located at Bannister Rd & Hwy 435 and provides students with transcript assistance, coaching and life/learning barrier assistance, and drop-in child care with five terms per year. Opening in Fall 2025.

Organization
Goodwill of Western Missouri & Eastern Kansas has a rich, 130+ year history, serving the community in Kansas City and the surrounding areas since 1894. Summary/Objective
The Excel Center Kansas City is an accredited, free high school serving Missouri residents age 21+ in the Kansas City area who want to earn a high school diploma. The school will be located at Bannister Rd & Hwy 435 and provides students with transcript assistance, coaching and life/learning barrier assistance, and drop-in child care with five terms per year. Opening in Fall 2025.
The Excel Center Director ("Director" or "School Director") is responsible for leadership of The Excel Center Kansas City.
The Excel Center Director provides a hands-on approach in directing, planning, managing, and coordinating the educational goals and vision of the school. The Director meets desired outcomes in the areas of operations, curriculum, personnel management, and development, in accordance with the principles of The Excel Center. Accountability is measured both internally and externally by state and local standards. The Director supervises and manages faculty and staff, creates and maintains a safe and secure educational environment for staff/students, and manages the fiscal activities of the school. The Director is heavily involved with strategic planning and fundraising within a fast-paced, high-change environment. The position works with the leadership of Goodwill of Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas in establishing school goals.

  1. Responsible for the effective operations and supervision of all faculty and staff, creates and maintains a safe and secure educational environment for staff/students, and manages the fiscal activities of the school.



Accountability Performance


  1. Works directly with the Chief Mission Officer to develop and implement school-wide goals around graduation outcomes, enrollment needs, student achievement, retention, etc.
  2. Establishes internal and external partnerships to enhance student achievement and post-secondary outcomes.
  3. Ensures a high rate of graduates receiving dual credits and/or approved certifications.
  4. Reviews graduate data to make impactful adjustments to the college and career programming of the school.
  5. Tracks school and student data to drive goals for improvement. Develops interventions and professional development in support of improvement goals.
  6. Sets and maintains a high-performance culture for staff and students.



Budgeting and Compliance


  1. Monitors monthly budgets to draw conclusions about students, staffing, and the building. Forecasts future needs and expenses to manage monthly and yearly budgets.
  2. Ensures all state and central office reporting requirements are completed accurately and timely.
  3. Follows central office procedures and requirements for various school functions.
  4. Maintains compliance with all legal, regulatory, and authorizer obligations of a school leader and special populations to ensure all students are being served. This includes company policies such as compliance, ethics, equity, safety and loss prevention, etc.



Student Recruitment, Enrollment, and Retention


  1. Proactively manages student recruitment / outreach opportunities to meet enrollment goals.
  2. Manages the student orientation process to maximize the number of enrolling students.
  3. Strategizes and makes adjustments to ensure enrollment and retention of students every term.



Staffing, Evaluation, and Development


  1. Builds an effective Excel Center team through an environment providing effective new hire training, job promotion opportunities, professional development and training, goal setting and succession plans for all faculty and staff.
  2. Responsible for proactively recruiting faculty and staff through establishing a prospect network, interviewing, and selecting qualified candidates for position openings.
  3. Utilizes employee evaluation process, inputs, and corrective actions to identify strengths and improvements.
  4. Other duties as assigned.



Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment. This job also may operate in varied environments which may include store, warehouse, mobile workforce unit, and office. May work with diverse cultures and ethnicities, as well as justice involved individuals.
Physical Demand
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is an active role. The employee must have the ability to communicate verbally and apply active listening skills, lift up to 25 pounds, bend and possibly stand for prolonged periods of time as necessary.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work/Travel


  • This is a full-time position.
  • Work hours are generally Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, however work schedule will vary as based on the needs of the business.
  • Evening or weekend work is expected to meet the needs of the role; the school hours may include evening classes as well as meetings and events.
  • Day-time travel within the MoKan region will be required.
  • Overnight travel will be limited by need and/or approval.



Qualifications
The role will be a proven leader with the following:
Degree, Credential and Experience Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in related in education, human relations, social work, rehabilitation counseling, psychology, or related field.
  • Education Administrator's Certification preferred or willingness and ability to obtain one.
  • 5+ years of experience in teaching or education administration.
  • 5+ years of experience managing; managing groups of professionals preferred.
  • Experience in a school-related leadership role.
  • Experience teaching adult learners preferred.
  • Industry Standards: Proven working knowledge of the Missouri Academic Standards, Common Core State Standards, and 21st Century Skills and knowledge of disciplinary literacy.

  • Excellent and appropriate communication skills as needed for a professional and academic environment using verbal, presentation, written, visual, non-verbal, digital and listening. The ability to present information to a variety of audiences.
  • Technical Proficiency in MS Office, G Suite Google Workspace, and student information systems.

  • Experience working with a diverse, non-traditional population preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong work ethic, character and integrity.
  • Organizational Aptitude: Excellent planning and organizing skills; ability to multi-task, and extremely thorough attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Ability to work a flexible, varied schedule with regular, predictable, reliable attendance as business demands dictate, including weekend and evening work.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license, good driving record, current automobile insurance with reliable transportation.
  • Ability to travel within the MoKan region as needed.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
