Position Summary:
The J. Robert and
Barbara A. Hillier College of Architecture and Design (HCAD) at the New Jersey
Institute of Technology (NJIT) invites applications for two full-time
tenure-track appointments in Interior Design or Digital Design at the rank of
Assistant Professor. The appointment is within the School of Art + Design at
HCAD. We seek accomplished educators and
designers with a strong research agenda, creative work, and a record of
teaching excellence. This may include, but is not limited to, the following areas
of evidence-based design methodologies:
Digital Design:
Innovative narrative and visualization technologies such as animation,
filmmaking and virtual production, VFX, game design and development, UI/UX, XR,
AI, HCI, or digital media and culture to teach design studio, lecture, and/or
seminar courses to undergraduate and graduate students.
Interior Design:
Emerging and advanced materials, lighting, human factors, human comfort, health
and well-being, innovative digital and visualization technologies, as well as a
wide range of environmental considerations including life cycle assessment
(LCA).
Essential Functions:
- Have a clear research agenda related to their design and creative work.
- Pursue this agenda through scholarly activities such as publishing papers
and/or books, presenting work at conferences, and designing peer-recognized
work. Agendas relating to NJIT's strategic plan are welcome and
interdisciplinary collaborative practices are highly encouraged.
- Teach courses and
studios in the respective fields of Digital Design or Interior Design.
- Participate in service activities within HCAD and
NJIT, as well as within their profession and/or discipline.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
- Hold a terminal degree in the field from an accredited program, or its equivalent, such as M.F.A., M. Arch., M.ID, or Ph.D.
- A proven record of excellence in teaching, and research and/or creative practice.
- Successful candidates in Interior Design without NCIDQ certification are expected to pursue it during their tenure track.
- Expertise may originate in many creative academic or professional areas.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience
prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the
satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and
experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
