The County Support Specialist is a member of the staff of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service ( NCCES). The County Support Specialist's primary responsibility in Mecklenburg County is to provide specialized office support for staff and volunteers, program marketing assistance, some administrative support duties for Extension program areas, and to perform routine clerical and technical work.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
North Carolina Cooperative Extension gives our residents easy access to the resources and expertise of NC State University and NC A&T State University. Through educational programs, publications, and events, NC Cooperative Extension Field Faculty deliver unbiased, research-based information to North Carolina citizens.

Mecklenburg County is a county located in the southwestern region of the state of North Carolina. Its county seat is Charlotte and is the state's largest city. As of the 2020 census, the population of the county was 1,115,482, making it the second-most populous county in North Carolina (after Wake County) and the first county in the Carolinas to surpass one million in population

Duties and Responsibilities:
The County Support Specialist provides support to the Extension staff where assigned. The County Support Specialist cooperates with colleagues in the Mecklenburg County Center in performing assigned responsibilities. The performance of assigned responsibilities is governed by the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the NC Cooperative Extension.
The position duties reflect a relatively high degree of independence and accountability. Requires fluent computer and marketing skills, excellent customer service and basic accounting skills. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, possessing strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.

Provide excellent customer service and support
*Provide administrative support to Extension program areas (4-H, FCS, ANR)
*Prepare written correspondence such as memos, forms and emails
*Create, maintain, organize and enter information into databases and use various computer applications
*Operate office equipment, fax machines, copiers, or phone systems
*Set up and manage paper or electronic filing systems, recording information, updating paperwork, or maintaining documents, such as correspondence, or other materials
*Compose, typing, and distribute information such as meeting notes, agendas, and general information.

Work Schedule Monday - Friday 8 AM - 5 PM
Minimum Experience/Education
Graduation from high school and two years office assistance and secretarial experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Department Required Skills
Technical Skills:
An extensive knowledge of computer applications is required including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite. Must have a willingness to learn new relevant software programs as they become essential.

Communication Skills:
Must be able to greet office visitors and assist them with their concerns. Hand out appropriate research-based educational materials to clientele as needed. Answer the phone in a specified manner and take messages.
Teamwork:
Work effectively with co-workers to accomplish organizational goals and identify and resolve problems. Interact with all staff to help ease workload in other areas. Assist volunteers with special programs and requests.

General Office Tasks:
Back up Administrative Assistant & other staff members as needed. Cover office during staff lunch breaks. May be working alone in the office.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Graduation from high school and two years office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Experience in web-page management, social media content publishing, newsletter design and preparation preferred.

Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to provide excellent customer service.
Required License or Certification
Valid Driver's License and reliable, personal transportation required. Valid North Carolina driver's license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
