POSITION TITLE: Fitness Coordinator

DEPARTMENT: Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii)

SUPERVISOR: Health & Wellness Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

CLASSIFICATION: Full Time, Hourly Pay $23.00

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Fitness Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the Group Exercise Program as well as assisting with coordination of other health and wellness programming of the Kroc Center Hawaii. Under the direction of the H&W Manager the Fitness Coordinator will oversee scheduling, training, problem resolution, customer relations, exercise leadership, quality and safety assurance.

The Fitness Coordinator will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the way he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  1. High school graduate or GED.
  2. One year Group Exercise Instruction.
  3. Two years of management experience or program coordination experience.
  4. Group Exercise Certification required (minimum of one): ACE, ACSM, or AFAA or equivalent training/education.
  5. Experience in coaching/motivating individuals and groups & leadership skills.


Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:



  1. Bachelor's degree in physical education, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology or related field preferred.
  2. Personal Training Certification (Preferred): ACE, ACSM, NSCA, or NASM.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  1. Under the direction of the H&W Manager, provide leadership in the Group Exercise program by identifying program needs; researching new class formats to offer; assisting with scheduling & supervising instructors; coordinating class schedules; mentoring and evaluating instructors; and assessing and growing member satisfaction.
  2. Assist the manager with the supervision of Fitness Attendants, Personal Trainers, and Massage therapists by providing direction and quality control to ensure center meets or exceeds the monthly goals for fitness operation including financial and other operating results.
  3. Mentor Health and Wellness staff and provide feedback to help improve and develop stronger customer service outcomes.
  4. Assist with the coordination and planning of all revenue generating activities, including but not limited to: complimentary workouts, seminars, workshops, etc. and assists the membership team with fitness presentations as needed.
  5. Assist in every aspect of the daily cleanliness of the fitness floor and locker rooms and carry out regular health and safety checks on all equipment.
  6. Assist members and guests and encourage their involvement in our fitness programs.
  7. Develop safe, professional, exciting and comprehensive programs to ensure clients are satisfied with their exercise program and remain motivated to attain their personal fitness goals.
  8. Lead and provide excellent customer service to all members and guests according to the standards set by the Health & Wellness Manager, Program Director, and Center Director. Collaborate and assist Health & Wellness Manager in member retention programs and initiatives, achieving targeted member retention goals for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
  9. Possess strong interpersonal & communication skills. Able to generate, maintain & demonstrate a friendly, enthusiastic, and positive attitude.
  10. Possess a strong member service focus. Respond professionally to requests and inquiries from guests, members, and staff to ensure effective long-term problem resolution.
  11. Be a fill-in Group Exercise Instructor as needed.
  12. Attend weekly and monthly team meetings.
  13. Facilitate member integration by working closely with the sales team, medical advisor and member's personal physician where needed.
  14. Conduct wellness lectures and outreach activities to build awareness and wellness participation within the community.
  15. Assist a team of fitness professionals such as Group Exercise Instructors to meet program objectives within the Kroc Center to maximize member retention.
  16. Maintain a current Group Fitness certification and regularly conduct and audit classes to maintain high membership retention levels.
  17. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  18. Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
  19. Maintain regular and punctual work attendance.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The position required a high degree of energy, physically fit and have the endurance to complete the workout. Physical effort required for daily duties include lifting heavy weights, squatting, bending, reaching, spotting & prolonged standing and walking. Must be able to frequently lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.

The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 50-75 pounds and occasionally more than 75 pounds. This employee may also be required to work weekends and evenings.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:

The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendor; talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies.

The ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the environment is occasionally loud. Extended workdays are a frequent occurrence, as are weekends and holidays as needed to support the business. The Fitness Coordinator will work one weekend day a week, opposite day from the Manager.

Most work will be at the Kroc Center Hawaii Facility. Attendance at trainings and conferences, both in Hawaii and on the mainland, may be required. Extensive travel is possible, including air travel, driving long distances, night driving, overnight travel, and extended travel of three days or more.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:

Cardio and strength training equipment.

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES

Current CPR and AED certificates may be acquired after employment.

Group Exercise Instructor Certification required (minimum of one): ACE, ACSM, AFAA

The candidate chosen for this position must have a valid driver's license and insured transportation.

On an annual basis, employees are required to participate in The Salvation Army's Fleet Safety Program.
