Job Description Summary: Analyzes and assumes mid-market employer risk on behalf of Blue KC with an ultimate goal of striking balance between client needs and corporate targets. Outside of risk evaluation, this role will interface primarily with internal sales personnel to develop strategies and solutions to meet client's current and unanticipated needs. Job Description
  • Accountable for both timely and accurate risk analysis as well as renewal strategy development and execution. This consists of a myriad of calculations, data extraction, data evaluation, and implementation of needed rating actions for both current and prospective mid-market employers.
  • Practices effective communication (client/consultant face to face meetings, presentations, conference calls, etc.) with a variety of internal departments, as well as, with sales personnel, clients, and brokers/consultants.
  • Negotiates premium rates, prices varying benefit levels, and evaluates alternate funding options in order to meet needs of both the client and Blue KC. This role will perform these functions within two distinct rating environments which covers experience rating, manual rating, as well as community rating.
  • Provides training and leadership to others in the underwriting department including technical assistance, general guidance, and the communication of changes in policies and operating procedures.
  • Efficiently and effectively handles all contracts, amendments and paperwork on proposals and renewals.
  • Calculates, analyzes and provides accurate settlements on the variety of alternate funded accounts.
  • Assists in process review and design, current and new underwriting guidelines and processes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Mathematics, or other relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years' of Group underwriting experience within the insurance industry; or other business fields providing a solid foundation for understanding and being able to assess risk; and engage in analytical issue resolution with customers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA Preferred.
  • Underwriting certification by HIAA, LOMA, or RHU is preferred.
